What should you tick off before your Pine Rivers date?
Work down this list in order. Each item is something the magistrate may ask about or that changes what happens to your licence.
Straight after the charge
[ ] Read your Notice to Appear. Check the court (Pine Rivers, 374 Gympie Road, Strathpine), the date and the charge.
[ ] Work out your licence status. Under 0.10 you are suspended for 24 hours. At 0.10 or more, after failing to give a specimen, or with another drink driving charge pending, you are suspended until the charge is decided (TORUM s 79B).
[ ] Ask about a s 79E order if you are suspended until court and may fall within the narrow eligible categories.
[ ] Stop driving if you are suspended. Driving while suspended is a separate offence with its own disqualification.
In the weeks before court
[ ] Get the police facts and mark anything wrong: times, the reading, the description of your driving.
[ ] Ask for two or three references from people who know about the charge. Each should be signed and dated, and say how long they have known you.
[ ] Check your work licence eligibility against s 87 (below). If you qualify, prepare affidavits from you and your employer.
[ ] Gather supporting letters, such as a GP or counsellor's letter, if alcohol or drug use is part of the picture.
The day before
[ ] Print everything, with copies for the court and the prosecutor.
[ ] Arrange a lift both ways. A disqualification begins on the day of sentence.
[ ] Check the Pine Rivers 2026 calendar for closures. The court is closed from 25 December 2026 to 1 January 2027.
When is your matter listed at Strathpine?
Under the 2026 calendar, criminal matters, including Notices to Appear, are listed at 9am each weekday. Traffic matters are listed at 9am every weekday except Thursday. Long pleas of guilty are listed by the court on Fridays, and trials on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Special hardship order applications have their own Friday 11am list, and the remaining 2026 dates are 23 October, 6 and 20 November, and 4 and 18 December. The calendar does not name a separate list for section 87 work licence applications, so confirm the listing with the registry.
The registry is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm, except Wednesday, when it closes at 4pm.
Which penalties apply to your charge?
Add these to your checklist as the numbers to know. They come from Queensland's Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 (TORUM) s 86 and the Transport and Main Roads drink driving guidance, and a penalty unit is $172.70 from 1 July 2026.
Learner, P-plate and other zero-limit drivers, or a reading from 0.05 up to 0.10: a fine of up to $3,454 (20 units) or 3 months' jail, and a disqualification measured in months, from a 3-month minimum for learner and P-plate drivers (1 month when driving particular vehicles, such as trucks and buses) and 2 months for the general limit, up to 9 months.
A reading from 0.10 up to 0.15: up to $4,835 (28 units) or 6 months, and a 3 to 12 month disqualification.
A reading of 0.15 or more, under the influence, or failing to give a specimen: up to $6,908 (40 units) or 9 months, and at least 6 months off the road.
Tick every box before you spend time on affidavits:
[ ] You held an open Queensland licence (not learner, P-plate or probationary).
[ ] Your reading was under 0.15.
[ ] You were not driving for work, or driving a truck, tractor or bus.
[ ] You have had no licence suspension, cancellation or disqualification, and no drink or drug driving conviction, in the past 5 years.
[ ] You can show that refusal would cause extreme hardship by depriving you or your family of your means of earning a living, and that you are fit and proper.
If you tick all five, you can apply under s 87 after the finding of guilt and before the disqualification is ordered (TMR – restricted licence). What happens after sentence?
[ ] Serve the disqualification in full, unless a work licence order was made.
[ ] Reapply for your licence at the end. It is issued as a probationary licence for at least a year.
[ ] Book an interlock installer if your reading was 0.10 or more, you were convicted of under the influence or failing to give a specimen, or this is a second offence in 5 years. The interlock period is 12 months (TORUM ss 91I and 91N). Our QLD alcohol interlock guide explains the program.

Queensland penalty changes in 2026: check your offence date (law checked 20 Oct 2026).
Offences on or after 31 August 2026: higher maximum fines apply. They are 20 penalty units ($3,454) for the general alcohol limit and no alcohol limit offences, 28 ($4,835.60) for the middle alcohol limit and 40 ($6,908) for driving under the influence of liquor or a drug. A first general alcohol limit conviction (0.05 to under 0.10) on an open licence now carries 2 to 9 months' disqualification. For offences before 31 August 2026 it was 1 to 9 months. Police can now give an eligible first low-range driver on an open Queensland licence an infringement notice of $1,295 instead of a court charge. Unless the driver elects to go to court, a 2-month disqualification follows. It counts as a conviction, and there is no work licence for that period. Drug driving (a relevant drug present) has not changed yet. The maximum is 14 penalty units ($2,417.80) or 3 months, with 1 to 9 months' disqualification on an open licence and 3 to 9 months for learner, P-plate and unlicensed drivers.
Offences on or after 1 December 2026: minimum fines start for drink and drug driving. For example, the minimum is 7.5 penalty units for low range and for drug driving. The drug driving maximum rises to 28 penalty units, and a first offence on an open licence carries 2 to 9 months' disqualification. A new offence of driving with a relevant drug present while over an alcohol limit adds 1 month to the disqualification range.
An offence committed before a change is generally dealt with under the penalties in force when it happened. Are traffic matters heard on Thursdays at Pine Rivers?
Not under the 2026 calendar. Traffic matters are listed at 9am on the other weekdays, and Thursday mornings are used for other lists such as probation and parole.

Can I be sentenced on my first date?
Yes, if you plead guilty and your material is ready. If not, you can ask for an adjournment, but any suspension until court continues.
Does a Traffic Offenders Program reduce the disqualification?
It can be taken into account at sentence, but the court must still disqualify you within the range set by TORUM s 86.
Do I need an interlock for a first offence?
Yes, if your reading was 0.10 or more, or you were convicted of under the influence or failing to give a specimen. Below 0.10, a first offence does not trigger the interlock.
