Hello, I am Josh Boorman and I am reporting from outside the Southport Magistrate’s Court, where I have just appeared on behalf of a client for a low-range drink driving offence. Today, we had to face the strong winds of Cyclone Oma, which is soon approaching the Gold Coast and Southeast Queensland region. But rain, hail or shine, the Court matter must go on.

The Incident
Our client was from New South Wales and had come to Morton Island for a visit. While there, he had a few drinks throughout the day, and his fiancé was driving them around. However, they needed to perform a tow recovery with another four-wheel drive, and our client had to jump in the car to help. It was at this point that the police stopped them for a random breath test, and our client recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.083 – his first offence.
The Court Proceedings
Our client had completed the traffic offender program and worked as a mobile mechanic, which meant he had a need to drive. However, since he was on a New South Wales license, he was unable to get a work license in Queensland. Despite this, the court sentenced him to a minimum of one month’s suspension of his license and a fine of $500.
